As a small family business, we are committed to our community and our staff. In response to the extended shelter-in-place orders, we’ve adjusted our showroom operations to better serve you during these uncertain times.
Offering services at a safe distance
Metro Lighting's showroom is currently closed to the general public but we are available by phone, email, and now Zoom video conferencing. You can schedule an appointment online 24 hours a day for a consultation or pickup at your convenience. We will continue to expand our online product selection each week. For local shoppers, you may order online and apply the discount code LOCALPICKUP if you want to pick up in person and avoid shipping charges.
Supporting our artisan partners
Our glass artists work remotely in their individual studios and rely on continuous work to keep their glass furnaces running. Shutting down and reigniting a glass shop is a costly and time-consuming process, so we are working hard to place orders to support these independent businesses.
In the future, we plan to showcase our talented artisans by highlighting the steps they take to make our handcrafted glass collections. We recently shared our first feature clip, Bottle Glass Lighting Maker's Process, which was initially created for Metro Lighting’s presentation at the Annual Recycling Update hosted by the Northern California Recycling Association. We also highly recommend the Netflix series "Blown Away" for an inside look at the art of glassblowing!
Creating a safe environment for customers and staff
We are grateful that as a local maker, our small business can safely continue to fabricate lighting fixtures. Our production shop manager is working solo in our metal shop to safely maintain minimum basic operations. Fixtures are packaged for two days before pickup. We've set up a will-call table at the front of our store and are following best practices for safety. This includes wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and thoroughly disinfecting surfaces after each 1:1 appointment. Packages are set on the will-call table for customers to take while we keep a safe distance.
Moving forward with positivity
Thank you so much for your patience and support during this difficult time. Our small business is here because of you– our customers, and we look forward to lighting your homes and businesses for many years to come. We are optimistic that our collective efforts will continue to curtail the spread of COVID-19 so we can meet again in person. Wishing you and your loved ones good health!
